Your Vehicle Shipping Contract

There are certain phrases in your vehicle shipping contract that you should be aware of, and make sure that they are not on the contract. A contract should include the following information, at a minimum; origin, destination, departure date, vehicle types, type of services, and special services (door to door etc.) Although the majority of transactions and deliveries are worry free, damages do occur!

Prior to signing the contract should be read carefully, and understood by both parties. The auto transport company should be available to answer any questions that you may have about the service, payment, or other issues.

Your vehicle shipping contract should not have a guaranteed pick up clause. This allows the company to keep possession of the vehicle, and therefore having no reason to have it ready for pick up or delivery on a certain date.

There are certain things that the customer should ask be inserted into the contract. If the car is not picked up on the planned date, ask the company to waive the cancellation fee and ensure that this is written in the contract, and signed by both parties.

Sometimes the shipment faces delays and the vehicle is unavailable for a period of up to two weeks. If the vehicle is unavailable at the set date, insert into the contract a clause that allows for insurance to cover a rental car. Be sure to find out the maximum amount that the company will cover, per day, so that are you not facing an unexpected bill at the end of the week.

Ensure that the contract includes full disclosure of prices, and that there will be no surprises at the time when you pick up the vehicle.

Agree on payment method, prior to the contract being signed. Obtain a copy of the insurance information should you be required to file a claim, and make sure you understand each aspect of the contract.
